Oluwole Awolowo Burial Committee

MEMBERS of the Oluwole Awolowo Burial Committee were named on Monday, with Ambassador (Dr) Tokunbo Awolowo Dosumu as chairman.

Other members of the nine-member committee are: Mr Taiwo Adeoluwa, Secretary to the Ogun State Government (SSG); Barrister Segun Awolowo; Venerable Foluso Olugbenga Babatunji; Mrs Yejide Badmus; Honourable Salako Tajudeen, chairman, Ikenne Local Government Area of Ogun State; Senator Sola Odumosu; Mr Kenny Osude and Mr Edward Dickson, Managing Director/Editor-in-Chief, Tribune titles, who is the secretary of the committee.

The remains of Chief Oluwole Awolowo will be committed to mother earth on Friday, April 19, 2013.

Meanwhile, the General Overseer of The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor E. A. Adeboye, has said that all mortal have their appointed time with death.

Adeboye said this during a condolence visit to the matriarch of the Awolowo dynasty, Chief (Mrs) HID Awolowo, over the death of the Chief Oluwole Awolowo.

The cleric, who arrived the Ikenne residence, at about 11.40 a.m, said “we should give thanks in all things. We all have our appointed times. If the appointed days come, no one can query God.

“We cannot understand why it happened. We are sad, but we give glory to God. We beseech you Lord that this family shall not witness any form of sorrow again,” he prayed.

He urged Mama to take solace in the fact that God knew best and also prayed that good news would never ceased in the Awolowo’s home.

Adeboye, during the short visit, offered prayers for Mama and the family.

“ Father, you are all in all. You know why you allowed this to happen. Whatever that may be written against the happiness of this family, please correct it.

“Lord, fight for this family and let the enemies be scattered, because all power belongs to you. Let there be happiness, joy, peace and abundant blessings in the Awolowo’s home now and forever.

“We pray for Mama that she will not weep over her children, grandchildren and great grand children till the rest of her life. She will live the remaining of her days in happiness,” he prayed.

Other symphatisers that thronged the Awolowo’s residence on Monday were the Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade; Olori Sijuwade; Professor Oladipo Akinkugbe, his wife, Folasade; former governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola; his wife, Omolola and the Ogun State Commissioner for Health, Dr Olaokun Soyinka, among others.

Oyinlola, in the condolence register, wrote that the late Oluwole Awolowo served God and humanity.

“We thank the Almighty God for a life of service to God and humanity. May He, in his infinite mercy, grant your soul eternal rest,” he wrote.

Also, a former governor of Ekiti State, Segun Oni, described the late publisher as a prayerful and caring man.

“Rest in peace, Egbon. You were such a loving, caring and prayerful man. Egbon, you assisted me so much in my hour of need for which I remain very grateful. The Lord Almighty will console Mama and the entire family and abide with all. Rest In Peace, dear Egbon,” he wrote
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Gbenga Ashiru, said the deceased was an unassuming person.

“Uncle Wole Awolowo was a distinguished journalist, publisher and writer. He was totally friendly and unassuming. He died at a time his services were most needed . May his soul rest in peace,” Ashiru wrote.

Former governorship candidate of the Peoples Party of Nigeria (PPN), Prince Gboyega Nasir Isiaka, said the death of the late Awolowo was painful.
“Your demise is painful. May your soul rest in peace. We shall sorely miss your wise counsel,” GNI wrote.

The former Group Managing Director, Oodua Investment Limited, Sir Remi Omotosho, in the register, wrote: “The Lord whom you served to the end of your life will uphold all members of the family you left behind. Adieu.”

To Dr. Yemi Ogunbiyi, the late Awolowo was a wonderful man, writing: “To a wonderful Egbon and brother - the immutable, unbreakable apparatus. Goodnight. You have earned the right seat with your ancestors.”
