Armed men, believed to be soldiers, Friday evening, raided one of the residences of Major Hamza Al Mustapha (rtd), former Chief Security Officer to the late Head of State, General Sani Abacha,  located at Durbin Katsina, Kano metropolis, leaving in its wake sordid tales of rights violation and molestation.
The heavily armed men, who reportedly came in trucks and  tanks,  allegedly cordoned  several streets leading to the house and seized the occupants who were mostly women and children in an operation that lasted 60 minutes.

Al-Mustapha’s younger brother, identified as Hadi, is also said to be a resident of the house.
Eyewitnesss said the ‘soldiers’ came in trucks and tanks and, immediately they gained entrance into the building, ordered everyone around to lie face flat on ground and, at gunpoint, conducted a thorough search of the building.
“One Abubakar, reportedly  a cousin to Major Al-Mustapha, was maltreated by the troops. He is recuperating at a private hospital, a  witness  recounted.
The eyewitness revealed that  the wife of Hadi, Al Mustapha’s  brother, was  forced, at gunpoint, to conduct the armed men round the expansive building, adding that “the traumatized housewife was immediately taken to a hospital shortly after they left”.
Another source stated: “The invading forces were not friendly, not even the children were spared as the house  was ransacked inside out all in the name of searching for an imaginary cache of arms”.
The source added, “The same treatment was meted to those outside. I heard their leader, a colonel, during a telephone conversation, telling the person at the other end that they had  not found anything incriminating  and  that it seemed  the information (they had) was not accurate”.
Speaking on the development, Hadi disclosed that the family was evaluating the damages done by the men, stressing: “We intend to come up with details of what happened and the action to follow in due course.”
The outgoing military spokesman in Kano State, Captain Ikediche Iweha, while reacting to the story, declared: “ Haba, we don’t  invade houses. If  the story you are telling is correct, then it must be the usual routine checks.
“In any case, give me time to verify the matter and get back to you”.
As at press time the spokesman did not call back. He is on transfer to 3rd Armoured Brigade, Jos.

Major-General Muhammadu Buhar and Senator Bola Tinubu

As the All Progressives Congress (APC) prepares for its ward, state and national congresses, it has emerged that the leadership of the party may have quietly decided to settle for a Major-General Muhammadu Buhari-Senator Bola Tinubu presidential ticket to contest the 2015 presidential election.
THISDAY gathered from reliable party sources that the decision to field Buhari and Tinubu as APC’s presidential and vice-presidential candidates respectively, was informed by the massive votes, which the pairing of both men could garner for the party during the election.
By the party’s calculations, Buhari, who remains very popular at the grassroots level in most parts of the North-west and North-East, alongside Tinubu, who is from the South-west, will be banking on an estimated 44,848,911 registered voters who accounted for 61 per cent of total registered voters of 73,528,040, in the 2011 election.
This is in contrast to the 27,735,678 registered voters in the North-central, South-south and the South-east zone combined, who accounted for 39 per cent of total registered voters in the 2011 election.
APC’s strategists are also confident that with Tinubu as Buhari’s running mate, the pair will be able to secure the bulk of the 2,941,214 votes cast for Jonathan in the South-west and Edo State in 2011.
According to an APC source, “With Buhari and Tinubu as presidential and vice-presidential candidates respectively, our goal is to secure the core north and South-west, which are the most populous sections of the country and can guarantee us at least 50 per cent of the total votes in the country during the presidential election.”
On the impact of the Muslim-Muslim ticket on the electorate, especially with the insurgency in the North-east which has resulted in the deaths of so many Christians, he said the party had decided to forge ahead with the ticket because it is certain that it has a winning formula.
“Initially, Buhari’s handlers and Tinubu’s men were hesitant due to the Muslim-Muslim pairing. But they have decided that it should not be an issue, irrespective of the accusations by the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that APC is a Muslim party.
“Lest you forget, Tinubu is an extremely liberal Muslim and is married to a Christian, and has been known to attend church services during weddings, funerals and other special occasions.
“Like most South-westerners, he is quite liberal and we hope this would persuade Christian voters that they have nothing to fear. So Buhari and Tinubu have reached a quiet agreement to contest on a joint platform, with the latter already setting up structures nationwide,” he said.
He further explained that by fielding Buhari and Tinubu for the 2015 presidential election, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, who joined APC recently, has effectively been left out in the cold.
“We know that if there is a free and fair presidential primary, there is a major likelihood that Atiku has the resources to muster a victory.
“However, Buhari, who initially had concerns about the merger between the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) has grown more confident in the alliance.
“Besides, he and Tinubu worked too hard to ensure the merger took place, so it would be foolhardy for someone to come in from outside after APC has been formed to think he can get the presidential ticket of the party just because he has deep pockets,” the APC source said.
When asked how party stalwarts such as the River State Governor, Chibuike Amaechi, who has been against a Muslim-Muslim ticket, would react to the pairing of Buhari and Tinubu, another party source who was familiar with developments,  acknowledged that the issue had been tabled and the party had evolved a strategy that will handover the party leadership to Amaechi and the PDP group by making Sam Jaja the party chairman.
He said: “We know Amaechi and other former PDP governors who joined the party may prove to be difficult. So our plan is to ensure he secures the senatorial ticket on our platform and wins the election to go to the Senate.
“But before this happens, we shall immediately make Sam Jaja, who is his kinsman, the chairman of APC. Then when Amaechi becomes a senator, our goal is to see him emerge as the senate president, following which Jaja will be asked to step down as the party’s chairman to ensure ethnic balancing.”
It is not clear how Atiku and other past PDP members who defected to APC would react, however, Buhari and the Tinubu group are determined to midwife the party they created through the merger of ACN, CPC and ANPP.

I will die if deported back home, UK based Nigerian lesbian avers

Adejumoke Apata
A 46 -year old Nigerian lesbian asylum seeker in the UK, Adejumoke Apata says she risks a death sentence if she is deported to Nigeria.
According to her, she fled Nigeria in 2004, claiming that her girlfriend, who refused to go with her, was brutally murdered by vigilantes in 2012.
Adejumoke Apata said she was subjected to homophobic torture, persecution and a brutal arrest after she was exposed as a gay woman. She averred that she was also sentenced to death by stoning for being a lesbian.
Adejumoke, who is facing deportation, doesn’t want to be deported and has started a campaign aimed at persuading people to sign a petition against her deportation.
“Returning to Nigeria is not an option for me, because as well as a death sentence hanging over me, I will face 14 years in prison due to the anti-gay law that was passed by the Nigerian Government in January 2014. I want to remain in the UK in order to contribute positively to the society and support my girlfriend, who I am now engaged to,” Adejumoke said in a YouTube video.

IN MY NEIGHBOURHOOD: Exchange of gunfire still going on with helicopter gunship hovering over the Aso Drive neighbourhood of Maitama adjoining the SSS Headquarters.
Whatever this is, it appears more serious than an attempted jailbreak claimed by the SSS.
May God Protect the innocent and destroy the murderers, kidnappers and planners of genocide, Amen.

There have been heavy gunfire exchanges around the vicinity of Nigeria’s presidential palace and the headquarters of the Department of State Services in the Asokoro District of  Abuja in the past one hour, security sources and residents of the area said.
The expansive headquarters of the State Security Service, popularly known as Yellow House, is almost adjacent one of the remote gates of the presidential villa.
Residents of the nearby Aso Drive Area said the gunshots were either coming out of the SSS headquarters or the presidential villa.
A resident of the area told PREMIUM TIMES, “We don’t know what’s going on here. Heavy gunfire has been coming from the direction of the villa. The entire area has been barricaded. SSS operatives are scampering out of their headquarters as the gunshots get louder.
“Soldiers are now heading in the direction of the SSS headquarters with Armoured Personnel Carriers. Those of us living around here have been asked to stay indoors and not venture out.”
The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Reuben Abati, could not be reached for comments.
But the spokesperson of the SSS, Marilyn Ogar, said the gunshots were triggered by attempted jailbreak at the Service’s headquarters by suspected members of the extremist Boko Haram sect.
She said, “What happened was that the suspects handlers went to feed the detainees here but suddenly they attacked him with their handcuffs, disarmed him and started shooting.
“The military was quickly called in before they could do any harm and that is responsible for the shootings you heard.
“It was an attempted jailbreak but it has been brought under control.”
It is however not clear how detainees, held in the highly fortified complex, got guns with which they shot at soldiers and SSS operatives for over an hour.
It is also not known whether there were casualties in the attack.
Military helicopters have now been deployed and are now hovering around the area.
A resident of the area, Yoosooph, tweeted as follows during the attack.
